Q: What gets you out of bed every morning?
A: My cats, quite literally. Every morning Pumpkin and Bear jump on the bed and wake me up with very sweet cuddles, but it’s all a ruse. As soon as I get up and feed them they wander off to go do cat things elsewhere in the house and ignore me until I come home for the day. I love them though. They’re the perfect amount of crazy and cuddly and getting to come home to them every day is the best!
Q: Before working at Stivers, what was the most interesting job you had?
A: I worked as a team leader in a program called AmeriCorps NCCC where I had the opportunity to lead a team of 10 other young adults in service work across the Southwest region of the US! We worked in Taos, New Mexico with the Dream Tree Project on expanding their youth shelter capacity, did invasive species removal for the Taos Land Trust, and worked at the Taos Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Then we moved on to Houston, Texas where we helped rebuild 9 homes for people still displaced due to Hurricane Harvey. It was a stressful job, but now I can say that I’ve worked with a flamethrower and know how to repair drywall in my house!
Q: If you won the lottery and had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
A: This is definitely a really boring answer, but I’d invest most of it. Of course before investing I’d do things such as pay off my mortgage, help the family with any outstanding debts, probably take everyone on an awesome vacation, things like that; but for the most part, I would want to save all that money for later so that I can retire earlier. I have a dream of owning a quaint farm in the country with horses, chicken, goats, rabbits, you name it! Hopefully, even without winning the lottery, I’ll be able to make that happen someday!
Q: What do you look forward to most when you walk into work?
A: Honestly the people that I work with make this job for me. All the ladies (and soon to be gentleman) in this office are incredibly hard-working, dedicated, and inspiring people to be around. They’ve definitely helped me learn a lot and grow in my career here. I don’t think I would be nearly as successful in my job without my awesome team supporting me!
Q: What is your personal mantra?
A: Ironically it comes from a movie that I wasn’t a big fan of, but I always tell myself “my philosophy is that worrying means you suffer twice”. I heard that at a really stressful and uncertain time in my life and it’s stuck with me ever since. I tend to overthink things and worry about the “what if’s” of life a bit too much, so I try to be as in the moment and worry-free as possible! It’s not something that comes easy to me since I’ve always been a bit of a worry-wart, but slowly I’m beginning to worry less and just appreciate what’s in front of me more!
